Because part of our
mission is to remove access barriers, SAVE has emerged as a national leader
among non-profit organizations that protect voting rights. SAVE Chapters
record, report, and organize public awareness campaigns around young voter
ballot access and work to strike down deceptive voting practices, antiquated
registration barriers, and Election Day irregularities. SAVE leaders have not
only convened national hearings on youth voter suppression, but also provided
public testimony before various state legislatures and the U.S. Congress on
election reform matters. SAVE is also regularly quoted by national media
outlets concerning our election protection efforts.
* Launching National Voter Awareness Month
SAVE has partnered with the League of Conservation Voters
Education Fund, Common Cause, Earth Day Network, and Mobilize.org in order to
push Congress to declare September 2008 “National Voter Awareness Month.” With
the support of a Congressional resolution, our organizations’ chapters are in
the process of helping state and local institutions deliver sample ballots,
voter registration forms, absentee ballots, and other education materials to
diverse constituencies.
* Advocating Same Day Voter Registration
Young Americans are disproportionately affected by
registration deadlines because, as a whole, they are more geographically mobile
than older age groups. Same day voter registration removes this participation
barrier by allowing citizens to register in their district the day of the
election.Safeguards exist to prevent
voter fraud and ensure election integrity. SAVE chapters form statewide
campaigns to promote same day voter registration, which also allows young
people to harness the momentum that campaigns build as Election Day approaches.
SAVE is non-profit, non-partisan, 501(c)3 organization registered in Washington D.C.
